Ristorante Villa Borromeo
Situated on the Via Cassia, which links the Tuscan capital with Siena and Rome, Villa Borromeo has offered hospitality to many illustrious guests: Pius VII passed by here on his way to France as a prisoner of Napoleon, and Antonia Di Borbone, wife of Grand Duke Leopoldo II, sojourned here with her children and court during the period of unrest in 1848.
Country villa, residence and a refuge in times of trouble, Villa Borromeo also has a chapel that is the focus of an ancient Marian cult. It is a faithful reproduction of the ancient house of Loreto, as it was before a fire devastated it.
The cuisine is typically Tuscan, with highlights including Gnocchi alla Borromeo, Pici senesi alla spalla e porcini, Fondue Bourguignonne, Fillet with ‘cooked wine’.
